For the fourth year, Senior Planet from AARP is putting out a “call for athletes” to become a Senior Planet Sponsored Athlete. Are you an older adult athlete who is ready to share your fitness journey with the Senior Planet community? Enter before December 12 and you could become a 2023 Senior Planet Sponsored Athlete – and receive a $1000 prize to be used toward achieving your fitness goals!
The Senior Planet Sponsored Athlete program features five older adult athletes. Over the course of the year, we chronicle their fitness journeys through fitness articles shared on SeniorPlanet.org. Athletes also host virtual events for the Senior Planet community. (Watch 2022 Sponsored Athlete Sally Saenger’s presentation on better balance here!)
What it takes to become a Senior Planet Sponsored Athlete:
- Sponsored Athletes inspire other seniors by sharing techniques that help them stay fit after 60. This includes agreeing to be interviewed and photographed for dedicated articles on SeniorPlanet.org, writing your own blog updates for the website, and allowing us to share your story with the Senior Planet community.
- Host at least two live fitness events for the Senior Planet community, and attend at least two Senior Planet classes within 12 months of being selected.
- Applicants should engage in some type of fitness activity 3x per week and agree to use the $1000 prize toward achieving their fitness goals; for example: monthly gym membership, workout equipment, race entry fees, etc.

About the application process:
- Five older athletes will be selected.
- To enter, submit a 250-word (minimum) description of your fitness area of interest and experience with Senior Planet, along with a photo and/or video, by December 12, 2022.
- Senior Planet Sponsored Athletes will be selected and notified on or about December 28, 2022.
