Meditation is the practice by which there is constant observation of the mind. Consciously or unconsciously, we are all seeking this inner peace. The unstoppable chattering of the mind can be overwhelming at times and cause stress and anxiety. Only when our attention is fully engaged does the mind become silent. There are certain activities in life that bring us a short interlude of peace for as long as they absorb our interest. Once the mind is distracted, it returns to its routine of aimless wandering—wasting its energy on thoughts of the past or dreams of the future. Through the consistent practice of meditation and mindful breathing, we can learn to observe the mind. By stopping the waves of thoughts, you come to understand your true nature and discover the wisdom and tranquility that lie within. There are many methods of meditation, and it’s up to you to discover which one suits you the best.
Join Senior Planet fitness trainer Castulo Castro (Cas) for a discussion about the different approaches on this theme, along with adequate postures. Consistency and concentration are essential. In the words of a famous Yogi who came to the USA to share ancient wisdom back in the late 50’s, “During concentration, one keeps a tight rein on the mind; during meditation, the rein is no longer necessary, for the mind stays of its own accord on one single thought wave.”Cas, born in Colombia but made in the USA, grew up in the area of Far-Rockaway, Queens. He also lived abroad for 30+ year’s in Venezuela where he worked in the oil industry in various shipping agencies for 20+ year’s. Cas has certifications in Hatha Yoga, Tai Chi and Meditation. He’s also a certified Reiki Master and does hands-on healing. In his earlier years, he attained his black sash in Southern style kung-fu and is a member of the World Black Belt Bureau of the USA since 1996. Cas has put his meditation to practice by participating in a Vipassana Retreat back in 2007, which consists of a 10 day vow of silence, meditating up to 10hrs daily during this retreat, which is literally a bootcamp for the mind.
