Description

Join this Wellness Wednesday group to discuss the different ways you can improve your physical, mental, and social well-being.

This week’s topic: Steps to Better Balance and Falls Prevention

Falls Prevention Awareness Week, with a theme of “From Awareness to Action,” is Sept. 18-22, 2023, to increase awareness of how to prevent falls among older adults.

Most falls are preventable; they are NOT a normal part of aging! If you are afraid of falling, have fallen in the past, or are interested in maintaining the good balance you currently have, join Josy Delaney, MPH, MS, public health educator and Tai Chi teacher, for a discussion of the many actions that can be taken to prevent falls: understanding medication side-effects, regular vision check-ups, home safety assessments, exercise, and proper use of assistive devices. Various resources will be presented for participants to create their own personal falls-prevention action plan.

Over the decades of her professional career, Josy Delaney has been a licensed massage therapist, a clinical exercise physiologist in Cardiac Rehabilitation, and a public health educator, managing a Medical Center’s Community Wellness Program. Currently, she is an adjunct instructor at Champlain College and is teaching an undergraduate online course, The Biology of Nutrition & Fitness. She is also a trainer for Senior Planet and a Tai Chi teacher. Her passion and mission for her Tai Chi practice is to focus on better balance and falls prevention for older adults. Josy lives in Tupper Lake, New York, with her husband of 45 years, and their dog and three cats.
