Meet the Trainer…Saily Martinez Gutierrez

Meet Saily Martinez Gutierrez, one of Senior Planet’s dedicated virtual trainers! Saily is a mother of two based in South Florida with a background in medical education. We chatted with Saily about her passion for teaching Spanish-speakers about the power of AI and watching participants gain confidence as they learn.

What are your favorite parts of being a Senior Planet Trainer?

I really enjoy that the participants are eager learners. They’re ready and excited to learn new things – It’s not like I’m staring at blank screens. And we get to know each other – We know pets’ names, we’ve met moms, we’ve had tours of homes and when regulars don’t show up to class, we look out for each other.

I never considered myself to be high-techy, but I’ve always been told I’m very patient and when I’m explaining things people seem to get it. Seeing participants progress is really helpful for me as a trainer. I’ve seen a people go from not being able to get into their Google Play Store to telling me, “I just did this with ChatGPT!”

What is your favorite class to teach?

My favorite is Digital Tools for Brain Health, because of my medical background. It comes very naturally to teach people about health and how tech can help us slow down, not just speed up.

Also, a lot of people are scared of the unknown. I want to say the AI classes are the most rewarding, because you see fear turn into complete confidence. I teach all the Spanish AI classes and you can see it on their faces – their shoulders start to relax and they’re absorbing the information, which helps me dial it up a little more.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I’ll be really honest, I’ve been trying to get into the gardening space, but time is not with me. I would love to garden, but having two tiny people is not conducive to hobbies.

What does aging with attitude mean to you?

Embracing the changes that we’re all going to go through with curiosity and bravery.
