Description
This is a hybrid program (virtual/in-person). Join us at the center in Plattsburgh as we live-stream this special event on the big screen! A Senior Planet trainer at the center will facilitate your questions in real time for Dr. Boyd.
Everything we do, learn or forget changes our brains. This process is called “neuroplasticity” and it can be studied in real time using advanced brain imaging approaches. Scientific data reveal that the central purpose of our brain is to make memories, in this sense we are learning machines. Yet, learning is not always easy and our ability to make new memories changes as we age. Join Dr. Lara Boyd to learn what you can do to facilitate learning, and how you can leverage this information to maintain a healthy brain as you age.
Dr. Lara Boyd is a Physical Therapist and Neuroscientist at the University of British Columbia where she is a professor, Distinguished University Scholar and fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. She is an expert in the neurobiology of learning and uses advanced brain imaging approaches to look into the brain. Dr. Boyd’s research is centered on understanding how behavior shapes learning, unlearning and relearning. She has published more than 200 scientific papers and her TEDx talk “After this your brain will not be the same” has over 38 million views.
