Two Senior Planet Centers Reopen!

It’s been a long two years, and we’ve missed you!

Some of you may only be familiar with Senior Planet because of our online classes and programs (see here). However, pre-pandemic, we operated walk-in centers in six locations.

And now we can finally announce the reopening of two of our Senior Planet Centers, in our locations in New York City and in San Jose.

About Senior Planet Centers

Senior Planet Centers are dedicated to leveraging the power of technology to improve the way we age. We focus on supporting older adults age 60 and over by providing a comfortable space to learn, work, and explore new ways to thrive in today’s digital world. Each center is equipped with technology for you to use for free, including high-speed computer workstations, large-screen televisions, iPads, and other devices connected to Wi-Fi throughout the space.

Senior Planet from AARP in New York City

Location: 127 W 25th Street, in the Chelsea neighborhood in New York City.

Senior Planet in New York City has reopened as of Monday, May 16th

“After being closed for more than two years, I am ecstatic that our New York City center is back and better than ever!,” says  Marco DiGirolomo, New York State Program Manager.  “ I’m excited to have joined the New York City team during a time of transition and am ready to meet all the wonderful New York City program participants and supporters. Having seen the wonderful work we do online, I can’t wait to continue offering those programs while adding in-person program offerings. Hope to see new faces as we begin our journey back to normalcy”, Stella Fosu, New York City Center Manager stated.

“I’m incredibly excited to welcome our participants back into our space after two years of being closed due to the pandemic,” says Ryan Kawamoto, Regional Director for Senior Planet at Avenidas Center Manager

“I’m also thrilled that we will be continuing our online programming that I know our participants from across the country and even internationally continue to enjoy with a click of a button from the comfort of their homes.” Ilze Duarte, Center Manager for Senior Planet at Avenidas, echoed Ryan’s sentiments, ”I’m so proud of our team that worked tirelessly to build communities online during the past two years, but nothing compares to in-person interaction, especially in preventing social isolation, and for me, it has been heartwarming to see participants come back to our space that I haven’t seen in over two years.”

“As part of our reopening, we have also started to offer in-person Apple Tech Talks — our 1-on-1 tech coaching sessions with a volunteer — by appointment on Mondays from 11:00am – 1:00pm PT.”

  1. Do you have Senior Planet location anywhere near Seattle, Washington?
This would be a central place for the Puget Sound area.
The closest I’ve found is in Colorado – not very convenient for in-person classes!

    1. There’s no Senior Planet location near Seattle, but libraries and other sites may be offering our programming in the near future. Keep reading the Orbit and watch for the announcement of locations of Senior Planet Licensing Program participants.
