Maintaining your sexual health while aging can be full of many changes and even some obstacles that may seem impossible to overcome, however, erectile dysfunction (ED) does not have to be one. Erectile dysfunction is extremely common and ultimately affects hundreds of thousands of men across the country. While there are many factors that cause this sexual issue, there are also many ways to treat it. Although age heavily increases your chances of developing ED, the good news is it can be treated regardless of your age. In honor of Men’s Health Month, we’ve put together a run down of what someone experiencing ED may face and how senior couples can worth through this treatable condition in order to maintain a healthy sex life.
Symptoms
ED can develop from a variety of sources. These may range from heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, anxiety, and even stress. While the causes can be harder to pinpoint, the symptoms are much simpler to recognize. Once you begin to find it difficult to maintain an erection during sexual activity, it’s time to speak with your primary care provider. They will be able to better diagnose your physical health issues and determine the root of what’s causing ED. Open communication and being as transparent as possible with your doctor will provide you the best possible chance for effective treatment.
Treatment
There are various routes to take when it comes to treating erectile dysfunction. From safe FDA approved medications to small lifestyle changes, you have options when it comes to how you want to tackle your bedroom issues. Medications like Sildenafil, Tadalafil, and Vardenafil can treat ED within 30-60 minutes after consumption and can improve erections for up to 8 hours after. However, taking the natural route can be quite effective as well. This includes eating healthy and exercising regularly which will improve blood flow, and can ultimately treat ED.
The most important thing you and your partner can do throughout this entire process is communicate. Once you have an open communication and can truly dissect where the issue stems from you will be able to tackle the problem head on. If you are hesitant to speak with your doctor on these sensitive issues, take a look into telemedicine companies that offer great care from the comfort of your own home.
