“So many unbelievable, wonderful things re still happening to me at this stage of my life, an I can’t wait for tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow. …”

That’s one of the Hip Operation hip-hop crew talking about what it’s like to be 90-something and practicing for the World Hip Hop dance championships in Las Vegas in the trailer for a documentary slated for release this spring.

What started as a way for seniors on Waiheke  Island, New Zealand, to stay active had evolved – despite histories of hip and knee replacements, heart conditions and more that make Hip Operation, as one member puts it, “a spare parts team.”

“We feel very much in tune with those people who nobody seemed to care about, that they actually started to do something positive for their own lives,” one member says of the crew’s connection with the originators of hip-hop.
