VR, or Virtual Reality, once a staple of military or medical training, or flight simulation, is entering the mainstream. VR is an interactive, computer-generated experience within a simulated environment, communicated via a VR headset. It is most commonly used in entertainment applications such as gaming and 3D cinema, but research in using VR to ease dementia symptoms or aid memory show promise.
In August, Senior Planet’s Tech of the Month Series features Virtual Reality. Harold Goldberg, founder of the New York Video Game Critics Circle and New York Game Awards, will come to the Senior Planet Exploration Center in Chelsea to give Senior Planet members a two day workshop on Virtual Reality, bringing three devices for you to try.
Interested in learning more about Virtual Reality, trying out a headset and learning how it works? Register for our workshop to take a headset for a spin at the Exploration Center August 28 and 30. Who knows? It might start you off on a whole new hobby as a gamer, like these seniors featured in a recent Senior Planet blog.
Advance RSVP required. To RSVP, email rsvp@seniorplanet.org or call 646-590-0615.
