Senior Planet at the Malone Adult Center

Senior Planet Tech Spot at the Malone Adult Center offers a range of free 5- and 10-week technology courses that require advance registration, as well as bi-weekly tech help. For courses and events at Senior Planet Exploration Center in Champlain Centre, click here.

REGISTRATION

Register for the  fall quarter on September 26th or 27th from 10am – 2:00pm at the Malone Adult Center. You must register in person. Classes will fill on a first-come, first-serve basis; if you are placed on a waitlist, you will be notified of open seats in the first two weeks of the course. Please call 518-566-4422 with questions.

The fall quarter will run from October 1st – December 7th

HOURS

The Malone Adult Center is open 9am – 4pm, Monday – Friday.  Senior Planet staff will be present during course sessions and every other Friday for Tech Help.

Fall Quarter Courses

Mondays & Wednesdays, 1:00 – 2:15pm

Get an introduction to the popular Apple tablet. With hands-on support, you’ll learn the basics of the iPad and how to use it to browse the web, use email, download apps, watch video, take pictures, connect online and more.

Note: iPads will be provided for use.

Computer experience prerequisite: This is a course that is appropriate for absolute beginners.

Mondays & Wednesdays, 10:30 – 11:45am

This iPad-based course expands on the concepts and skills taught in the iPad Basics course and covers the use of the Internet as an everyday resource for practical and enriching activities for socialization, entertainment, and life-management. You’ll learn about social networking, online shopping, online banking, health management, entertainment, and how to use the Internet for different types of research. You’ll also learn the basics of social networking, how to protect your personal information, and ways to explore and cultivate your interests online. This course is a good opportunity to raise your comfort level and expand your ability to use iPads to improve and enrich your daily life.

Computer experience prerequisite: Some comfort with using email, navigating websites and searching for information on the Internet.

Mondays & Wednesdays, 2:30 – 3:45pm ( October 1st – October 31st)

This course – designed for intermediate computer users – will take you through many of the most popular social media tools used worldwide by internet users of all ages, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more. The course is best suited for those who have already taken the Senior Planet Beyond the Basics course, or for those who already know how to use email and the Internet and search for information, and understand how to protect their personal information online.

Computer experience prerequisite: Ability to use email comfortably, navigate websites and search for information on the Internet.

Mondays & Wednesdays 2:30 – 3:45pm (November 5th – December 5th)

This 5-week course offers a guide on how to assimilate to digital culture. It focuses on the practical and meaningful application of basic iPad skills. Participants will explore how to use online resources in their everyday lives and the many ways digital culture can meaningfully impact their lives. By the end of this course, participants will know how to connect more easily, avoid scams and fraud, identify reliable resources for health research, and virtually attend cultural events and museum exhibits.

Computer experience prerequisite: you must have completed “iPad Basics,” “iPad Essentials,” or “Senior Planet U – iPad Basics,” or have basic familiarity with the iPad (meaning you are comfortable using a touchscreen and virtual keyboard to do web searches and operate an email account.)

COST

Membership and access to our classes, workshops and special events is offered free of charge. However, as a nonprofit, we happily accept donations.
