Ten best cities for Older Singles

It’s never too late. Love can be found at any age. Some people prefer to connect with potential dates through online dating sites, while others still want to meet the “old-fashioned” way, in person.

But did you know that where you live could increase your odds of meeting someone? As first reported in an article by Provision Living Senior Living Communities (based on data from Match.com), an older adult’s chances for romance could be directly affected by where they live.

OurTime, a popular dating site for singles over 50, did a survey in 2017 which explored dating trends and habits. The online survey was taken by 2,000 singles not currently in a relationship, with 1,000 of them being over 50 years of age.

Many reported they are nervous about dating, but nearly 72% say they’re hopeful and open to finding love in the future. The survey concluded that compared to when they were in their 20s, 65% of 50+ singles say they have a deeper appreciation for relationships and are better partners now.

However, sixty-one percent (61%) agree one of the most difficult aspects of dating at an older age is simply finding someone to go out with.

Here is a list of the 10 U.S. cities which have the highest concentration of singles age 55+ per data from Match.com. Six out of the top ten cities are in warmer climates – California and Florida. And several of them are situated along a coast, which might prove that long walks on the beach will never go out of style as an enjoyable date, no matter what our age.

  1. I am 70 and will never live in high woman dominated places -snowbird places as az, and fl. I need male attention, lost my husband in 2016 and I do body build and go to a lot of American legion dances for singles, divorced, separated, widowed, active people. This is a group there. I also dance with 30 year olds. There are all the 70 year old men out there seeing the 20-35 year olds. Wake up, get male friends . I also visited Mississippi, where the senior population I am told is low because of poor health care. Well, maybe that’s where we need to be.

  2. I am 85, and alone; living in a senior apartment complex has helped me to cope with this stage of life. We are with our peer group; we all have grey, or sometimes bald heads; wrinkles, sags and bags; We have our wheelchairs and walkers and scooters; we have pot lucks, dances, proms, holiday celebrations,,, games; coffee klatches, gossip groups ,eat out groups. we go swimming, meet for discussion groups; we even have arts and crafts and drama club, ,,, karaoke and more
some have even found a new love,,, and others have found new friends to take the place of lost friends and family.

I thank God for this senior apartment complex, without them I would be alone; with them, I have a family of over 500 people here in Phoenix, AZ

    1. Dear Joanne,
I am 61 and alone. I lost my 28 yr old son, 1 yr and 5 months ago & my only other son is estranged from me. I live in a big house full of memories as I raised my 2 boys here… I can’t even wrap my head around how to get out of here and I’m very depressed…no friends or family. The kind of place you are living at sounds wonderful and something that might be good for me. I do have a girlfriend in Phoenix that I met on a grief site…we have never met, but we talk often.

      1. Dear Cynthia,
I think an active social environment would be so good for you! You are still young and can start to bring joy and light back into your life. I think a therapist or life coach would be helpful to start the process of moving out of your big home to your new smaller easier to manage space. I am dealing with many of the same heartbreaks as you. It can be scary but, Seeing hope and possibilities instead of fear in the unknown is a powerful thing. Time is precious. Take a step. Call a realtor. Go spend a month in a rental getting a taste of the area you like. Sun City Arizona has a very active senior community with loads of activities and clubs. When you start to feel better maybe your son will come around. Maybe not. But if not you can still surround yourself with friends and interests that will make your life richer and fuller and happier. Be gentle with yourself but take a step and two then three. Just do it. Try it. It sure beats the alternative. Sending you love and hope and lots of good juju as you forge forward in your life.
Go for it! Get some joy!!
        Kindly,
        Micheline

    1. I live in San Luis Obispo, Ca. Every guy here–from 18-80 wants a 20 year old girlfriend. I really found only one guy that wanted a partner his age (70’s), but I later found out he had been arrested for child molestation. I think this was a mask to conceal his love of preteen girls. Summary? Face the fact romance might be a biological drive designed for reproduction. Volunteer, dive into spirituality, travel, buy a vibrator.
