Some spots still open for free tech classes

NOTE: Classes at Senior Planet Exploration Center on West 25th street in Manhattan are currently full! We do offer classes at many other locations, however. Check the map linked below!

Although summer courses have already begun, there are still some spots open at Senior Planet Centers’ summer sessions for free five or ten week classes. Whether you need a basic introduction to computers or are ready for something more challenging, you can find free, in-person tech help.

Curious to know more? Here’s a complete map of every Senior Planet location, from the New York area to Denver. Just review and click on the locations on the list on the left side of the screen, or click on an icon on the map to find a location.You don’t need to be a computer geek to be a Senior Planet member, either – a perennial favorite among its courses, “Computer Basics,” is designed for people who have never turned on a computer or touched a mouse.

Courses at all locations begin the week of Monday, July 9, 2018, unless otherwise noted, run through Friday, September 14, 2018. Hello, could someone help me with their opinions on buying a laptop very soon as my present computer is dying?

For many years I’ve been using Dell desktops and feel comfortable with them, but I decided this time I’d like to have a more manageable computer such as a laptop; however their attached keyboards are too uncomfortable to me for typing as they are too flat and joined together and their installed mouse also not too efficient to use.

Perhaps someone here knows of a laptop that has much more improved keyboard and mouse? It can be of any size as I won’t be carrying it around, it’s just for home, and anyway none of them weigh so much that anybody couldn’t carry it in case of needing repair.

Thanks ever so much for any ideas as soon as you can, before my computer gives its last sigh… :(

  You really don’t have to be concerned about a laptop’s mouse. I hate them myself, but you can plug in any standard mouse to any laptop, just the way you do with a desktop. As far as the keyboard, it took me a little time to make the transition between my desktop keyboard and the laptop, but I’m now quite comfortable using it.
