Senior Planet Montgomery Course Information

Senior Planet Montgomery offers a range of free 5- and 10-week digital technology courses for people age 60 and up at various locations in Montgomery County. Most courses meet twice per week, and class size is limited to 12 participants. Pre-registration is required for all of our multi-week courses.

Winter 2019 – Registration Now Open!

Winter courses will begin January 14th and run until March 22nd.

Orientation for classes at Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center will take place Friday, January 11th from 10:00am – 2:00pm.

This 5-week course will cover the essentials of how to use the popular Apple tablet. Learn how to navigate the Internet and how to send and receive email. By the end of the course, you’ll have a basic foundation for using an iPad and the Internet to enrich your life. iPads will be provided for use in class.

Prerequisites: None, this course is appropriate for absolute beginners!

This 5-week course offers a guide on how to assimilate to digital culture. It focuses on the practical and meaningful application of basic iPad skills. Participants will explore how to use online resources in their everyday lives and the many ways digital culture can meaningfully impact their lives. By the end of this course, participants will know how to connect more easily, avoid scams and fraud, identify reliable resources for health research, and virtually attend cultural events and museum exhibits. iPads will be provided for use in class.

Prerequisites: This course is best suited for those who have already taken iPad Basics, Essentials, or are familiar with the iPad. You should be comfortable using email, navigating websites and searching for information on the Internet.

Ready, Set, Bank is a new program designed to help older adults access the benefits of online and mobile banking.  The course includes a series of video lesson plans that explain online and mobile banking basics. You’ll learn how to navigate mobile banking apps, set up alerts about account activity to help protect from identity theft, and enroll in direct deposit for social security or retirement benefits.

Prerequisites: This course is best suited for those who have already taken an iPad course, or are already familiar with the iPad. You must have an email address that you use, and should be comfortable navigating websites and searching for information on the internet.
