Senior Planet Montgomery Course Information

Senior Planet Montgomery offers a range of free 5- and 10-week digital technology courses for people age 60 and up at various locations in Montgomery County. Most courses meet twice per week, and class size is limited to 12 participants. Pre-registration is required for all of our multi-week courses.

Get an introduction to the popular Apple tablet. With hands-on support, you’ll learn the basics of the iPad and how to use it to browse the web, use email, download apps, watch video, take pictures, connect online and more. iPads will be provided for use in class.

Prerequisites: None. This course is appropriate for absolute beginners!

This 5-week course offers a guide on how to assimilate to digital culture. It focuses on the practical and meaningful application of basic iPad skills. Participants will explore how to use online resources in their everyday lives and the many ways digital culture can meaningfully impact their lives. By the end of this course, participants will know how to connect more easily, avoid scams and fraud, identify reliable resources for health research, and virtually attend cultural events and museum exhibits.

Prerequisites: This course is best suited for those who have already taken iPad Basics, or are familiar with the iPad. You will need your own email address and should be comfortable using email, navigating websites and searching for information on the Internet.

September 25th – October 26th

This iPad-based course expands on the concepts and skills taught in iPad Basics and covers use of the Internet as an everyday resource for practical and enriching activities for socialization, entertainment and life-management. You’ll learn about social networking, online shopping, online banking, health management, entertainment, and how to use the Internet for different types of research. You’ll also learn the basics of social networking, how to protect your personal information, and ways to explore and cultivate your interests online. This course is a good opportunity to raise your comfort level and expand your ability to use computers to improve and enrich your daily life.

Prerequisites: This course is best suited for those who have already taken iPad Basics, or are familiar with the iPad. You should be comfortable using email, navigating websites and searching for information on the Internet.

This course will explore how technology impacts society and how we interact with one another. You’ll learn in-depth how to use popular social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and explore how technology is changing how we read the news, manage our health information, and interact with the world around us. Other topics include: scrapbooking with Pinterest, meeting people online, finding social events online, using online travel sites, using the Internet for fundraising and social change, finding volunteer opportunities in your community, and more!

Prerequisites: This course is best suited for those who have already taken iPad Basics, or are familiar with the iPad. You will need your own email address and should be comfortable using email, navigating websites and searching for information on the Internet.
