Senior Planet Montgomery Course Information

Senior Planet Montgomery offers a range of free 5- and 10-week digital technology courses for people age 60 and up at various locations in Montgomery County. Courses meet twice per week, and class size is limited to 12 participants. Pre-registration is required for all of our multi-week courses.

Summer 2019 – Registration Now Open!

Summer courses will begin July 8th and run through September 20th.

This 10-week course will explore how technology impacts society and how we interact with one another. You’ll learn in-depth how to use popular social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and explore how technology is changing how we read the news, manage our health information, meet other people, and find entertainment. Other topics include: scrapbooking with Pinterest, finding social events online, using online travel sites, using the internet for fundraising and social change, finding volunteer opportunities in your community, and more! This course will be taught on the iPad at Schweinhaut and a PC at Gilchrist.

Prerequisites: You must have an email address that you use. You should also be comfortable navigating websites and searching for information on the internet.

In this 10-week course, you’ll learn the basics of how to operate the Apple iPad and navigate the internet in ways that can enrich your life. During the course, you’ll learn how to take pictures, use email, search the internet for information, download apps, and connect to people, organizations and interests that matter to you. iPads will be provided for use in class.

Prerequisites: None. This course is designed for people who have never used an iPad or have very little experience and want a solid introduction.

This 10-week course will help you gain the skills and knowledge to search for jobs and succeed in the workforce in the digital age. You’ll learn how to age-proof your resume, how to write a modern resume and cover letter using Google docs templates, and how to use job search websites. The course also covers tips for writing professional emails, emailing attachments, uploading files, and how to ace a video interview.

Prerequisites: You must have an email address that you use. You should also be comfortable using a PC to navigate websites and search for information on the internet.

This 10-week, PC-based course expands on the concepts and skills taught in Computer Basics and explores the internet as an everyday resource. You’ll learn about social networking, online shopping, online banking, health management, entertainment, and how to use the internet for different types of research. You’ll also learn how to protect your personal information and stay safe online. This course is a good opportunity to raise your comfort level and expand your ability to use computers to improve and enrich your daily life.

Prerequisites: This course is best suited for participants who’ve already taken Computer Basics, Introduction to Digital Culture for PCs, or are familiar with using email, navigating websites and searching for information on the internet.

Beyond the Basics (Spanish): Este curso de 10 semanas enseñado con una computadora personal (PC) expande delos conceptos y las habilidades aprendidos enFundamentos de la computadora y explora cómo el internet puede ser un recurso cotidiana. Aprenderá sobre las redes sociales, compras en línea, banca en línea, el manejo de salud, entretenimiento, y cómo utilizar el internet para varios tipos de investigaciones.También aprenderá cómo proteger su información personal y cómo mantenerse seguro en línea. Este curso le dará una buena oportunidad para alzar su nivel de comodidad y le ayudará expandir su abilidad de usar computadoras para mejorar y enriquecer su vida diaria.

Prerequisitos: el curso es más apropriado para participantes quienes han tomado Fundamentos de la computadora o Introducción a la cultura digital para PC o quienes se sienten cómdos usando sus correos electrónicos, navegando sitios web y buscando información por el internet.
