Senior Planet Montgomery Course Information

Senior Planet Montgomery offers a range of free 5- and 10-week digital technology courses for people age 60 and up at various locations in Montgomery County. Most courses meet twice per week, and class size is limited to 12 participants. Pre-registration is required for all of our multi-week courses.

Summer courses will begin the week of July 16th and run through September.

This course will explore how technology impacts society and how we interact with one another. You’ll learn in-depth how to use popular social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and explore how technology is changing how we read the news, manage our health information, and interact with the world around us. Other topics include: scrapbooking with Pinterest, meeting people online, finding social events online, using online travel sites, using the Internet for fundraising and social change, finding volunteer opportunities in your community, and more!

Requirements: This course is best suited for those who have already taken iPad Basics, or are familiar with the iPad. You will need your own email address and should be comfortable using email, navigating websites and searching for information on the Internet.

In this PC-based course, you’ll learn the basics of how to operate a computer and navigate the Internet in ways that can enrich your life. During the course, you’ll learn how to use email, search the Internet for information, access sources of entertainment, and connect to people, organizations and interests that matter to you.

Requirements: None. This course is designed for people who have never used a computer or have very little experience and want a solid introduction.

Get an introduction to the popular Apple tablet. With hands-on support, you’ll learn the basics of the iPad and how to use it to browse the web, use email, download apps, watch videos, take pictures, connect online and more. iPads will be provided for use in class.

Requirements: None. This is a course that is appropriate for absolute beginners.

This iPad-based course expands on the concepts and skills taught in iPad Basics and covers use of the Internet as an everyday resource for practical and enriching activities for socialization, entertainment and life-management. You’ll learn about social networking, online shopping, online banking, health management, entertainment, and how to use the Internet for different types of research. You’ll also learn the basics of social networking, how to protect your personal information, and ways to explore and cultivate your interests online. This course is a good opportunity to raise your comfort level and expand your ability to use computers to improve and enrich your daily life. iPads will be provided for use in class.

Requirements: This course is best suited for those who have already taken iPad Basics, or are familiar with the iPad. You should be comfortable using email, navigating websites and searching for information on the Internet.

Learn about the pioneer online payment service, PayPal. This workshop will cover how to set up a PayPal account and add personal banking information to make payments.

This workshop will explore how to use the online retailer Amazon. You’ll learn how to search for products, make comparisons, and add items to an online shopping cart. Note: participants will not be asked to sign up for an Amazon account or make any purchases.

Tuesday, August 14th & Friday, August 17th

Learn the basics of using online travel sites to find the best fares and rates for just about any destination! This workshop will explore how to use the most popular online travel sites, including Kayak, Expedia, Airbnb, and Yelp.
