  1. I’ve just begun the book. For me, the start is not smooth or poetic or attractive. For me, it starts like a kissy, kissy page-turner.
But the group selected it and I’m gonna read it. Oft times, the *beginning* of a story does not warm up the reader, but persistence ends up paying off … big time.

  2. Enjoying this; the imagery comes through in the writing. I’ve visited California’s NAPA valley a few times, & this resonates. I appreciate the back & forth between present day & the sacrifices of the WWII invasion & occupation. Most of us have an overview of the period; this brings it to a personal level.

    1. Hi, Bernadette,
I agree with your comment: ” I appreciate the back & forth between present day & the sacrifices of the WWII invasion & occupation. Most of us have an overview of the period; this brings it to a personal level.”
My comment referred to her writing style. I just didn’t think this was going to be other than (forgive me) a chick lit thingy.
I changed my mind numerous chapters later. I’m Jewish, also been to Napa (what an experience!), and like you “have an overview of the period; this brings it to a personal level.”
      I agree.
      Regards, Mike
