  1. Enjoying this book a lot. The story of India’s struggle for independence combined with a murder mystery makes for a nice way to learn about the history. When I was in school we didn’t learn this side of history, so it is a great example of “underrepresented voices” I think. If you remember the movie “Gandhi” there is overlap. I’m hoping to make the discussion, but I’m afraid I may have a conflict. I think this was possibly the best choice of books that we have read so far.

    1. Hi Deborah,
I just signed up for the Book Club. I looked thru the entire feed and couldn’t find the answer to the question. It looks fun, but though there was mention of the vote, and she said she had posted the result, I just couldn’t find it. Did you get an answer to your question and a description of the process (i.e., vote the ? day of the ? week and post the result the ? day of the ? week?
      Thank you,
      Enid

      1. Hi Enid, Great question. The poll was posted a couple of weeks ago and the book we are currently reading is the result of last month’s poll. The zoom meeting for our book club this month is next Thursday, August 25th at 4:30PM EDT. Information on how to join is posted in this article

  2. Ignore previous wire !! My alumni book club in actually on a different book. I switched up the chapter timetables for both. No wonder it wasn’t matching up. The devil is in the details … enjoying this one for sure. Especially the insights about the culture and British – India relationships. And the policemen are really interesting characters.

    1. Hello Everyone! I am new to senior planet and the book club. I just got the book and am still at chapter 10. I will finish it by meeting time. I LOVE it! How witty and how much info about that historic period in India! Great choice, thank you!

  3. I am fully enjoying this intelligent mystery, steeped in the atmosphere of British India. I just joined this book club, and it has already introduced me to an author previous unknown to me. I’m looking forward to our online discussion.

  4. The same book is the new choice of the Lehigh University Alumni (on-line) book club. We’re just getting started … and our pace is going to be a little slower that yours. I’ll have to be careful with Senior Plant for spoiler alerts !! Hello from Dayton, Ohio (I’m a Lehigh Class of 1974)

  5. Excellent book. Great insight into life during the Raj. Book encouraged me to find other interesting British/Indian authors, and there are many superb writers. Vaseem Khan, Jhumpi Lahiri, Anita
    Desai,
    Amir Mukherjee, and others
