Open Thread Follow up: Guilty Pleasures

Apparently I’m not the only one who spent time in lockdown parked in front of the TV.

Popcorn and binge watching seems to be the guilty pleasures of choice among the readers who commented so far.  And some of ’em get pretty darned fancy.

“I love Popcorn. Sometimes it is my meal, others my dessert. Whenever I have it, it is generously sprinkled with nutritional yeast, both cayenne and black pepper, occasionally dill and always drizzled with olive oil.”

-Maggie

Others like a little sweet with their salty snacks.

OMG! Where do I start. Popcorn with a good video. followed by a nice Magnum Caramel ice cream bar.

-Martin

…And binge watching is hugely popular during the lockdown.

“The entire series of McLeod’s Daughters on Pluto TV. Riveting :-)”

-Suz

We’ll keep the comments open to let more people weigh in on their guilty pleasures.  Now excuse me, it’s almost time for Columbo!

  1. “Outlander” on Starz (from the series of books by Diana Gabaldon). Wow! I love chocolate nut dives, but, honestly, with this series, I haven’t even thought about one! Steamy, character-based sex scenes done with women and relationships in mind (trust me, ladies and gentlemen—you’ll see subtle, but heated differences!), thrilling adventures, and beautiful Scotland countrysides. Takes a lot to make me forget about chocolate and nuts. This does! And give it time to build. If the wedding night scenes in Episode 9(?) don’t have you reaching out for your partner or your vibrator, I’ll eat my, uh, hat! Might not be such a long, cold, lonely winter, after all!

  2. Chocolate chip cookies as I watch Blacklist on Netflix from the beginning again. I take large cookies and break them into smaller bite size pieces. Whenever there would have been a commercial I reward myself with a bite.

  3. A big guilty pleasure of mine is “buttered” popcorn (w/salt 2;) but lately i’ve been good, trying to do fruit only vs popcorn n/r sweets and having read that bananas n cherries help w/sleep, tried it and think it true!?

  4. Popcorn!

I love Popcorn. Sometimes it is my meal, others my dessert. Whenever I have it, it is generously sprinkled with nutritional yeast, both cayenne and black pepper, occasionally dill and always drizzled with olive oil. OOh yes, it has to be white kernels, I avoid the yellow, husky usually dry ones.

    1. My youngest daughter got me hooked on mixing different varieties of M&Ms into my tub of popcorn. I watch all of The Good Lord Bird on Showtime last week. Getting ready to start the second season of Sweet Magnolias on Netflix—no popcorn, I’ll be eating Dove chocolates and Cheez It’s.
