Meet Louise, a member of our Connected NYCHA program! We spoke with Louise about her experience using her new internet-connected tablet and how it has helped her overcome her fear of technology. You can learn more about the Connected NYCHA initiative here.
Have you ever used a tablet before?
Yes! I had one but it was old and difficult to use.
What do you like about the tablet?
This tablet is modern so it’s easier to use and it came prepared with a lot of different apps already downloaded. So it came ready to use and was easy to navigate. Plus it has a big screen which I love.
What Senior Planet offerings are you enjoying?
I like them all! The photography class, the drumming class, Android Essentials, Beyond Basics, and so many lectures!
I’m most impressed with the photography class. Before I would just take pictures and that was it. I didn’t know I had other options for how to cut, shape, and edit the photos! Now I edit all my photos before I post photos on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
Any words of advice for other people in the program?
Don’t be afraid of it! Even when you’re taking the classes, you might not get it then and there, but if you keep playing with it, you’ll learn. At one time, I would see my friends texting and I was like “I’ll never get it!” I was really scared of new technology. Now I have no idea why I was so intimidated!
What does aging with attitude mean to you?
We have confidence and we are not afraid! I want to try anything new and positive.
