|The staff at Senior Planet North Country and Older Adults Technology Services (OATS), the nonprofit that sponsors Senior Planet, have been constantly monitoring events regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in New York State. Following the closure of Clinton and Franklin County public schools, we are temporarily suspending all in-person Senior Planet programs effective Monday, March 16, 2020 in order to keep our community safe. The Senior Planet Center will be closed and all programs at The Malone Center are cancelled until the end of the month, at which point we’ll assess whether we can re-open.
In the meantime, we are actively developing ways to deliver Senior Planet programming online. Senior Planet already offers blended learning opportunities, including online modules on Senior Planet U, Zoom lectures, and videos on our YouTube channel, and we’re taking bold steps to shift our in-person programs to these platforms. We’ll be in touch via email when these programs are available; this information will also be posted at https://seniorplanet.org/locations/north-country/
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we encourage everyone to continue to follow safety measures set by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
An important note: you may be hearing the phrase “social distancing” in the news as officials recommend older adults stay at home. Social isolation is already real for many older adults in New York City. But during a public health crisis, digital connectivity can be a lifeline. We encourage you to engage virtually with family and friends, including the friends you’ve made through Senior Planet, even if you’re staying at home. And please connect with the Senior Planet community via email or on seniorplanet.org, Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter for additional sources of information and support.
If you have any questions regarding the closure, cancellations, or future programming, please contact us at email@example.com
