In order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and keep our community safe, Senior Planet Montgomery is following Montgomery County’s lead and temporarily suspending all in-person programs effective Friday, March 13, 2020.
All programming between now and April 3rd has been cancelled. We will be assessing the situation week by week. We will be making a decision about whether we will delay or cancel in-person Spring programming no later than April 6th. Additionally, we recommend that you check the County website for updates regarding the coronavirus and closures.
In the meantime, Senior Planet Montgomery is in the process of increasing our programming online in efforts to combat the social isolation that may result from necessary COVID-19 protective measures. Senior Planet already offers blended-learning opportunities, including online modules on Senior Planet U, Zoom lectures, and videos on our YouTube channel, and we’re taking steps to shift our in-person programs to these platforms. We’ll be in touch via email when these programs are available; they’ll also be posted at www.SeniorPlanet.org/Montgomery.
An important note: you may be hearing the phrase “social distancing” in the news as officials recommend older adults stay at home. Social isolation is already real for many older adults, even in our community of Montgomery County; during a public health crisis, digital connectivity can be a lifeline. We encourage you to engage with family and friends, including friends you’ve made at Senior Planet, even if you’re staying at home. And please connect with Senior Planet on seniorplanet.org, Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter for additional sources of information and support.
If you have any questions regarding Senior Planet Montgomery’s cancellations and future programming, please contact us by calling (240) 753-0676 or by email: mocoinfo@seniorplanet.org.
