In order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and keep our community safe, Senior Planet @Avenidas is following Avenidas’ lead and temporarily suspending all in-person programs effective Friday, March 13, 2020. Out of an abundance of caution, Avenidas, including Senior Planet @Avenidas, will remain closed to the public until further notice. Avenidas will be assessing the situation week by week.
In the meantime, Senior Planet @Avenidas is in the process of increasing our programming online. Senior Planet already offers blended-learning, including online modules on Senior Planet U, Zoom lectures, and videos on our YouTube channel, and we’re taking steps to shift our in-person programs to these platforms. We’ll be in touch via email when these programs are available; they’ll also be posted at seniorplanet.org/avenidas.
We apologize for any inconvenience, and we encourage everyone to continue to follow safety measures set by the Santa Clara County Public Health Department, California Department of Public Health, and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
An important note: you may be hearing the phrase “social distancing” in the news as officials recommend older adults stay at home. Social isolation is already real for many older adults, even in our community of Palo Alto; during a public health crisis, digital connectivity can be a lifeline. We encourage you to engage virtually with family and friends, including friends you’ve made at Senior Planet, even if you’re staying at home. And please connect with Senior Planet on seniorplanet.org, Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter for additional sources of information and support.
If you have any questions regarding Avenidas’ closure, please contact their front desk at 650-289-5400. If you have questions regarding Senior Planet @Avenidas, please call 650-918-5570.
