Silicon Valley Speaker Series
Demystifying Information Technology
In this Silicon Valley Speaker Series focused on demystifying Information Technology (IT), we started to explore the term, “Information Technology,” a.k.a. “IT.” Although general in scope of IT, cybersecurity is emerging as its own discipline, equally critical to business or personal finance. Cisco, one of the leading enterprise technology companies, defines cybersecurity as “the practice of protecting systems, networks, and programs from digital attacks.” Cybersecurity practices include awareness among the consumers and stakeholders, policy by the organization, operations performed by IT and Information Security (IS) professionals, and compliance by an independent party to perform verification and validation.
Please join the Silicon Valley Speakers Series (SVSS) on Fridays at 9 am PT to hear the basics of cybersecurity and learn what an IT or IS professional does on a day-to-day basis. This is a 9-week series of sessions. During the first 5 weeks, Information Security professionals will share what they do to protect systems, networks, programs and data. During the 6th and 7th weeks, we will discuss what we, as individual consumers, can do to further enhance our security posture. The last session will be a forward-looking perspective on cybersecurity practices. Like previous quarters, we are inviting guest speakers from the banking and/or technology industry to demystify IT and cybersecurity practices. This series intends to open the eyes of those of you with curious minds and connect common technology terms to our day-to-day activities.
Please note the speakers will share their perspectives that are of their own, which do not represent the organization they work for.
