What is a Nicho Box? Special Event with MySAPL’s Emma Hernandez

Date & Time

Tue September 29 | EDT

Location

Online / By Phone

Description

Join the Latino Collection and Resource Center at San Antonio Public Library in creating a nicho craft. Nichos, also known as retablos, are a type of folk art popular throughout Latin America. They are often devotional, but also quirky and include images of pop culture figures. Resembling dioramas, nichos are made from common household objects and craft materials. They are usually painted with striking colors, often contrasting bright and dark, and tend towards garish. Within the box, there is a central figure or object for whose honor the nicho has been created. Who will you honor?

This special Senior Planet San Antonio event will be co-hosted with Emma Hernandez, Program Manager, of Latino Collection & Resource Center at the San Antonio Public Library.

This how-to crafting event is limited to 50 participants. Everyone who registers will receive a nicho craft kit at no-cost. Kits will be available for curbside pick-up on September 25th at your preferred library location.

If you’d like register for this event, use this form to send us a message confirming your attendance, and tell us which library you’ve chosen to pick-up your nicho box kit. You can use this map here to find the San Antonio Public Library closest to you.

Event registration is closed. We are no longer accepting new RSVP’s. Thank you.
