End-to-End Encryption is a term often referenced in the tools we use for IT purposes, for example – Zoom, online banking, or online shopping. Encryption is one of the essential cybersecurity protection tools. What is encryption, how does it work, where it is used, and why?  This session will explore encryption technology widely used by the financial services industry.  Please join our guest speaker, Mark Zigler, as we will also take a look at a few use cases of encryption.

Mark Zigler brings more than 20 years of experience delivering technology solutions in the retail, supply chain, healthcare, banking, and financial industries.  If you shopped at a Longs Drugs Store between 2000 and 2009, Mark and his teams were the ones behind the technology that had the shelves stocked, sale prices set, and prescription medication ready for your pickup. Mark has also delivered prescription processing and payment systems at Kaiser Permanente, inventory and distribution systems at Restoration Hardware, and data capture and bank reserve balance applications at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.  Mark currently delivers financial management and investment solutions at AssetMark.

About the Silicon Valley Speaker Series: Demystifying Information Technology

In this Silicon Valley Speaker Series focused on demystifying Information Technology (IT), we started to explore the term, “Information Technology,” a.k.a. “IT.” Although general in scope of IT, cybersecurity is emerging as its own discipline, equally critical to business or personal finance. Cisco, one of the leading enterprise technology companies, defines cybersecurity as “the practice of protecting systems, networks, and programs from digital attacks.” Cybersecurity practices include awareness among the consumers and stakeholders, policy by the organization, operations performed by IT and Information Security (IS) professionals, and compliance by an independent party to perform verification and validation.

Please join the Silicon Valley Speakers Series (SVSS) on Fridays at 9 am PT to hear the basics of cybersecurity and learn what an IT or IS professional does on a day-to-day basis. This is a 9-week series of sessions. During the first 5 weeks, Information Security professionals will share what they do to protect systems, networks, programs and data. During the 6th and 7th weeks, we will discuss what we, as individual consumers, can do to further enhance our security posture. The last session will be a forward-looking perspective on cybersecurity practices. Like previous quarters, we are inviting guest speakers from the banking and/or technology industry to demystify IT and cybersecurity practices. This series intends to open the eyes of those of you with curious minds and connect common technology terms to our day-to-day activities.

Please note the speakers will share their perspectives that are of their own, which do not represent the organization they work for.

We are striving to improve your experience on our site and would appreciate your feedback.
