Description

Join Senior Planet and National Literacy Project for an insightful webinar on how to fact check and verify information online

Information is the most fundamental element of democracy. It is the basis for citizens’ understanding of the world around them; how we analyze social issues, assess challenges, determine political priorities, form opinions and evaluate our options. It is, in short, the raw material out of which we make decisions and take informed action. We must move beyond the unhelpful term “fake news” and learn to more precisely identify the many types of misleading, inaccurate and false information that we encounter. Explore motivations behind different types of propagators of misinformation and learn fact-checking basics to help encourage verifying information for ourselves and debunk misinformation when we encounter it. By exploring a deeper understanding of misinformation, you can become less susceptible to it and more likely to prioritize reliable, standards-based sources of news and information.
