Destination: Juneteenth Tour, Washington, DC
This immersive 60-minute experience will take you on a journey through the streets of Washington, D.C., where you’ll learn about the events and landmarks that played pivotal roles in the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States.
During this tour, you’ll delve into the complex and often overlooked history of slavery, emancipation, and the ongoing struggle for civil rights. Our knowledgeable guide will provide insights into the Dred Scott decision, the Emancipation Proclamation, and the role of enslaved labor in the construction of iconic landmarks like the United States Capitol. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of the significant impact Juneteenth had on the lives of millions of Americans and its enduring relevance today. Our virtual tour will commence at the Emancipation Memorial, also known as the Freedman’s Memorial, a powerful statue located a few blocks behind the United States Capitol. This poignant monument serves as a symbolic starting point for our exploration of Juneteenth’s historical roots. Prepare to be transported through time as we virtually navigate the streets of Washington, D.C. You’ll witness the Supreme Court building, where the infamous Dred Scott decision was handed down, denying citizenship to enslaved people. Our guide will paint a vivid picture of the enslaved individuals who toiled to construct the iconic United States Capitol building.
Join us to gain a deeper appreciation for the historical significance of Juneteenth. Engage with our knowledgeable guide, ask questions, and immerse yourself in the stories that have shaped our nation’s path toward equality and justice.
