Great recipes don’t always start with a plan. In this session, discover how some of our favorite sweet and savory foods were invented by accident. Then we’ll take a closer look at one of the most delicious food accidents of all: the chocolate chip cookie. During the baking segment, a batch of cookie dough will come together as you learn how just a few simple ingredient tweaks can create cookies that are crispy, chewy, crunchy, or cakey, so you can bake YOUR perfect chocolate chip cookie.
Presenter Bio:
For Paula Evans, baking isn’t just a skill. It’s a passion that’s been with her for as long as she can remember. It all began when, as a child, she watched her mom bake countless cakes, cookies, pies, and rolls from scratch. Paula doesn’t recall helping much, but she has fond memories of waiting patiently to enjoy any leftover batter from the mixing bowl. Fast forward several years, her love for baking was truly ignited during her high school Home Economics class. It was there she created a homemade, 3-layer cake she proudly presented to her mom for Mother’s Day. Paula is completely self-taught with an embarrassingly large collection of cookbooks and bakeware.
In 2007, Paula left behind a 20+ year corporate career to become a full-time caregiver for her mom. The following year, she took another leap of faith and opened a business selling baked goods to retail, wholesale, and catering clients. Eight years later, she transitioned to teaching baking which is where she found her true calling. She began sharing her passion with children at local community centers and with adults in a university’s community education program. She serves as an adjunct faculty member at one of the two colleges where she continues to teach today.
Soon after the COVID-19 pandemic began, Paula dipped her toe into the virtual world of baking classes. Although apprehensive at first, she soon fell in love with the on-line classroom and the opportunity to reach even more students in the comfort of their own kitchen. The ultimate multi-tasker, Paula balances her love of creating class curriculum and virtual teaching with her full-time job as an administrative professional. When not working, teaching, or baking, she enjoys batch cooking, reading, watching rom-coms and horror movies, and flipping through her massive library of cookbooks.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your baking skills, Paula is ready to guide you every step of the way in a fun and engaging virtual baking experience!
