SoundCloud: Neil Gaiman Reads “A Christmas Carol”
The New York Public Library sold out its December 2013 reading of Dickens’ “The Christmas Carol” by acclaimed (and wildly popular) British author Neil Gaiman – but the event was recorded and is now available to stream on the audio sharing platform SoundCloud. That’s good news for anyone who wants to hear the story read as Dickens intended; Gaiman followed edits and prompts that the author wrote for his own readings 150 years ago.
At the NYPL event, Gaiman joined Dickens researcher Molly Oldfield, author of “The Secret Museum,” who kicked it off by sharing stories about Dickens that she’s gleaned from her explorations of objects and texts in libraries and museums around the world.
If you want to skip straight to Gaiman, advance to 10:00 minutes by dragging the orange bar.
To hear other NYPL speakers past and future, follow the library on SoundCloud by first creating an account and then clicking the Follow button on the NYPL page; new audio talks are added every week or so.
