Senior Planet Joins Forces with AARP
A New Level of Impact
We have exciting news! After a series of successful collaborations, OATS and Senior Planet are officially joining forces with AARP as charitable affiliates. The affiliations will allow us to help even more older adults – like you – age with attitude, at a time when people are more reliant than ever on technology to live, work, learn and connect with friends and family.
Most Senior Planet participants and members may already be familiar with AARP, the nation’s largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering people to choose how they live as they age. OATS Executive Director Tom Kamber said, “Senior Planet has developed powerful connections with older adults all over the country, and now this new affiliation will enable us to vastly increase the number of people we serve and the change that we can create together.”
We are thrilled to share this news with our Senior Planet community. You might be wondering what this means for you: How will your experience with Senior Planet change? The short answer is, we will remain the Senior Planet you know and love. Your morning exercise class? Still going strong! Senior Planet book club? Ready and reading! Engaging and cutting-edge Senior Planet programming? Here to stay!
The affiliations mean even more classes, resources, and unique experiences for Senior Planet participants. It also allows us to expand our shared mission of harnessing technology to change the way we age, reaching many more seniors no matter their socioeconomic circumstances, geography, educational background, or age.
Join us in getting to know AARP a little bit better and welcoming them to our community.
What is AARP?
AARP is the nation’s largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering people to choose how they live as they age. With nearly 38 million members and offices in every state, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, AARP works to strengthen communities and advocate for what matters most to families—with a focus on health security, financial stability, and personal fulfillment. AARP also works for individuals in the marketplace by sparking new solutions and allowing carefully chosen products and services to carry the AARP name. Learn more about the history of AARP.

In recognition of Senior Planet and OATS officially joining the AARP family as charitable affiliates, we hosted an informative conversation between Tom Kamber, Executive Director and Founder of OATS and Senior Planet, and Scott Frisch, EVP and Chief Operating Officer of AARP. Tom and Scott provided some history on how this new affiliation came to be, shared why they are so enthusiastic about the news, and answered many of our participants’ excellent questions. I look forward to seeing how this Union of Senior Planet and AARP benefits seniors. Clearly, these programs that Senior Planet puts on cost money to create. Glad you will have more resources to create them. This will in turn add to the benefits of being an AARP member. Thank you for your programs. They have helped many seniors stay connected and learn new things, especially now that we are more limited in our contacts.
Well, another “sponsor” my ass.
Just like Time Warner and its Spectrum that just raised the cost of the Internet some 25%.
Yes, the seniors must be soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo grateful for this help with technology.
Ha.

Well, if NPR (National Prostitutional? Palestianian? Propaganda? all of the above?Radio) is praising, we must be good.
No biases here, of course. Just service…. I am tempted to ask “to whom?,” but I won’t.
Hi Robert and thank you for pointing out that AARP has become / is a political entity. I was saddened to see Senior Planet take this step and hope they are not encumbered in any way by the relationship.
Thank you! And don’t believe they are “non-partisan”.
I’m a 30 year member of AARP. Their supplemental health insurance policy is very good. Also, AARP fights for the rights and benefits for Seniors. They support the politicians who support us. Keep it up! One of the most powerful lobbys for Seniors. Glad to hear of the joint work with Senior Planet

Agreed Mary Jean. The AARP is bipartisan, with a mission to help older adults, a group that often has no voice in our government, or is seen as a group from whom you can strip funding. Age discrimination is rampant and often the government is a part of it. Older adults needs advocates desperately, and the pandemic has increased that need. It’s wonderful that the large reach of the AARP is being joined with the mission and skills teaching of Senior planet. We now have even more mission-driven and effective advocates.
Do we live on the same planet, Mary Jean Collins? Or you’re kidding?
