Senior Planet Book Club: Vote Here For Our Next Book!
Thank you to everyone who participated in our discussion both in the comments section of SeniorPlanet.org and at our first meeting over Zoom about our first book club book: “Tepper Isn’t Going Out” by Calvin Trillin.
Now it is time to select our next reading!
If you find you have a lot more time on your hands these days, then you’re in the perfect position to cozy up with some tea (or something stiffer) and dive into great book along with fellow Senior Planet readers. Each Tuesday, we’ll post a thread on SeniorPlanet.org inviting your comments on the next section of the book and then we’ll host a discussion over Zoom the final week of reading the book together.
But first! We’ve put together a shortlist of four engaging books suggested by our members and it’s up to you pick which one we’ll read together next. Read on for details about each book, then take the poll at the end and tell us: What should the Senior Planet Book Club read next?
We’ll announce the result of the poll in addition to how you can access a copy of the chosen book next Tuesday!
The Books:
The Dutch House by Ann Patchett
“At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves.” – GoodReads.com
I Remember Nothing: and Other Reflections by Nora Ephron
“Nora Ephron returns with her first book since the astounding success of I Feel Bad About My Neck, taking a cool, hard, hilarious look at the past, the present, and the future, bemoaning the vicissitudes of modern life, and recalling with her signature clarity and wisdom everything she hasn’t (yet) forgotten.” – GoodReads.com
And After the Fire by Lauren Belfer
“The New York Times-bestselling author of A Fierce Radiance and City of Light returns with a new powerful and passionate novel—inspired by historical events—about two women, one European and one American, and the mysterious choral masterpiece by Johann Sebastian Bach that changes both their lives.” – GoodReads.com
American Spy by Lauren Wilkinson
“What if your sense of duty required you to betray the man you love? One woman struggles to choose between her honor and her heart in this enthralling espionage drama that deftly hops between New York and West Africa.” – GoodReads.com

Hi, I started reading “The Dutch House”, rather, listening to the audiobook. It’s narrated by Tom Hanks which gives it a special touch.
I voted for Ann Patchett but any of the books on your list sound wonderful. I am so looking forward to participating in your book club.
