What is the book for November please?
Thanks, Meg
Hi Meg! Our November book selection is From Scratch by Tembi Locke. Visit our Book Club articles page for more information.
The Mullahs are all men. The benefits go to men, not women. Women seem to get only cursory mention by the Mullahs and seem to be just barely tolerated as an object to benefit the men.
In Islam there are no rewards for women and it seems they are considered only to be lesbians in death – deviants. This seems contrary to the Qu’ran.
The Mullahs don’t want male or female, realizing what the Qu’ran states as it seems as though the Mullahs might lose their hold and power over everyone.
The system hasn’t broken the drive and determination of these two women!
A fascinating read on what life has been & is for Women in those countries. They are Brave to push the envelope of their constrictions. It has helped realize what life is truly like for them and how creative women have been over the centuries to survive in the place of such suppressions.
When I started reading The Snail that Broke Its Shell I had trouble keeping so many names starting with “S” straight, but I’m doing better now. So far the book gives the usual depressing picture of women’s oppression in Afghanistan. Hard to imagine a “happy ending” to Rahima’s story.
