I’m loving this book so far. Maybe because I can relate to some of the stories. Can’t wait to see what happens as the story progresses. I particularly like the long friendship of Lo and the ladies. They are all so different but they continue to be there for each other.
I can relate to common threads with these women as they deal with age. The process of making changes to one’s life at any stage can be daunting, and Loretha makes stops and starts in the journey towards health and reshaping her life. Connections with her friends are vital, charming, and humanly flawed. Her children and sister struggle and and are not close physically or emotionally. And she keeps giving. I’m enjoying her kindness in taking in Carl’s son. I’m hopeful that this generosity of spirit will ultimately help those she loves, including Loretha herself.
This book is making me think my family and friends aren’t really all that dysfunctional comparatively! Lots of messed up people. I do love the dog’s name though.
I am hoping that the children of the women learn to take responsibility for themselves. Some of the characters are flat, underdeveloped., perhaps we see them become dynamic and rounded in subsequent chapters.
