Open Thread Update: Your Hopes for 2024
So what are your hopes for 2024? A few readers had some very heartfelt wishes.
We can all agree with Reader Robert…
Peace. Everywhere and every way. In the world out there and in our hearts and minds.
I’ve chosen to concentrate on 1) what’s wholesome, 2) what’s worthwhile, and 3) what’s beneficial . I’ve pointed to exercise as an elixir….
Reader Rae offered a poem that begins…..
In the quiet spaces where the wind whispers low, I open my heart, let my intuition grow. Mindfulness anchors, breath as my guide, In the dance of gratitude, spirit resides...
YOUR TURN:
Enjoy the rest of it in the comments! And feel free to add your own wishes, hopes and dreams for 2024.
Original column below:
2023- now that was the year that was. No matter where you are or how you are doing, I think we can all breathe a sign of relief that 2023 is finally, at long last, over.
As we begin the march into 2024, let’s take a look into the crystal ball and share our hopes, dreams and goals for the coming year. Here are mine:
I hope to finally shed the COVID poundage and learn better health management skills for my chronic conditions.
I hope technology will finally develop a hearing aid that will screen out ambient noise and boost speech.
I hope we’ll cure Alzheimers this year.
I hope that everyone will somehow find in their souls the patience and grace that is in such short supply.
I hope for good health and good luck for me, my family and my friends.
I hope to be offered that book contract, land a paid humor column, and finally get that beach house. And while I”m at it, I hope that I finally hit the Lotto and win a couple million in cash.
Hey – I can dream, can’t I? It’s not like I’m hoping to wake up and find Keanu Reeves in my kitchen making me coffee. But that would be nice too!
Your Turn
Anyway, that’s me. What are your hopes and dreams for 2024? Let’s keep it positive and civil, so no politics, no death wishes and no unkindness, okay? I knew I could count on you!

My hope for the New Year: World Peace, less hate speech (you can dislike or not agree with someone’s views, but to be out right hateful is wrong), we are all human, find more healthier ways to deal with food and exercise, let’s bring letter writing back (who doesn’t like getting a letter in the mail, on pretty paper, I know I do.) Have a good day, week, month and year!! Happy New Year!!
In the quiet spaces where the wind whispers low, I open my heart, let my intuition grow. Mindfulness anchors, breath as my guide, In the dance of gratitude, spirit resides.
Dragonflies dance, like spirits from afar, Deer, silent messengers, beneath the evening star. Nature’s canvas, a tapestry of signs, In each synchronicity, a connection binds.
Peace. Everywhere and every way. In the world out there and in our hearts and minds.
I hope that we all remember that we are one big family. That we can help each other and care for each other here and now. As Texas’ native daughter Ms Ann Richards reminded us “The here and now is all we have, and if we play it right it’s all we’ll need.”
Clarity, that’s my MORE IN ‘24 focus. I’ve chosen to concentrate on 1) what’s wholesome, 2) what’s worthwhile, and 3) what’s beneficial . I’ve pointed to exercise as an elixir. I believe 1) whatever exercise, there’s options — all good; 2) can develop muscles, stamina, reflexes — all worthy of your time/effort/energy; then 3) improve your overall health and physical skills — natural benefits to all your senses. Sounds simple, but I’’ll engage in my resolution: MORE EXERCISE IN ‘24
