Unfortunately I couldn’t join the book club discussion yesterday. I hope it went well. I would probably not have selected this book to read, favouring an easy life these days. Thank you all for choosing it, it was so good. I admired the tension that was gradually built up throughout the book and as for the ending, well, I didn’t see it coming at all and I’m pretty good at spotting these things. I hope this doesn’t contain spoilers for anyone still reading.

Thank you Nicole. If I am well enough, I will certainly join in. I have covid which has obviously affected my ability to work out which day it is!

I am a bit confused..first time with this book club. I am not seeing any comments about the book yet. Do people usually just wait till the whole book zoom discussion? Or am I not looking at the correct comment section for The Nickel Boys book ? Not a criticism, just figuring this process out…Got the Libby audio version and hope to be done by the April zoom meeting. Looking forward to discussion. Thank you.

During the COVID “shut down” we were forced to communicate via Zoom. Why do we still continue with this form? There’s nothing as important than face to face communication. Please, reintroduce person to person contact.

      Hi Frans!

We appreciate you sharing your thoughts! We understand the importance of person to person contact and offer a wide array of in-person services at our Senior Planet centers. However, there are many individuals who greatly benefit from online programs. We want to ensure that our participants have access to the classes, groups, and events that we offer, regardless of their location!

Thanks for your comments re keeping Book Club online. I am in Colorado and really appreciate seeing faces and hearing comments on Zoom for the great books that have been chosen over the last years. The selections are outstanding and most are works I would not have chosen without the suggestions by the Club members. It is great to see who returns each month online for the final discussion. Please keep offering this program as it has been enriching for all who participate. Thanks.

It’s nice to have a face to face. But there are many people who can’t get to the location easily. The address of SP is not within easy travel to by subway or bus due to physical reason (climbing stairs in subway, etc.) or time restraint for people are not in Manhattan or upper Manhattan. I participate in another book club that still does it virtually.
In addition, I think this is a group decision and not a mandate.

Hi Rhonda! We release a poll after our zoom discussions so that folks can vote on the books we’ll read for the next two months. The book with the highest number of votes will be read first, and the book with the second highest number of votes will be read the following month. According to our last poll, our May read is Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Here is the link to the completed poll: https://seniorplanet.org/articles-senior-planet-book-club-vote-for-our-next-book-26/
