1. I kept a cassette recorder and some Walkmans so I can listen to my stash of cassette tapes. I also wondered whether I should donate myself as an “obsolete object”

   1. I appreciate all the comments. I work for the Area Agency on Aging. Now let’s talk about how the multi -generational groups work differently in their work styles. Yes I am 60 plus. All is good.

2. Not all progress is good (talking to you, “robotic female docent”). I easily live w/o a fax, but worry about landlines’ demise. I keep mine active in case of emergency. Here, 911 cell calls route through California Highway Patrol before being transferred to local police dispatch. Dispatch often places calls on hold before answering. Increased response time in an emergency could be fatal. AT&T has petitioned CPUC to cease being carrier of last resort. A favorable ruling will end landline service.

3. When I’m doing serious accounting I still rely on my light-weighed battery-operated calculator and print a tape. My phone or computer calculators can’t do that, and I don’t have to use a printer to get full-page printouts. And the feel of the keys on my calculator helps me avoid mistakes.

5. I have a Keuffel & Esser Log-Log Duplex Decitrig slide rule in its original package and its own serial number. Does the museum want this?

6. Couldn’t live without my cordless mouse either. Still have my land line but I use the cell most. No fax but could still use one at home!

7. The mouse is infinitely easier to manipulate than that stupid little square pad on laptops. It is also MUCH easier for older hands. I would be lost without the mouse. So would my husband, and I bet if you did a survey, you’d find that was true for most older people.

   Have an all-in-one printer but never use the fax. Scan and email does it for me.

   1. I 100% agree with Martha!
      I have a cordless mouse and would be lost without it. I never use keyboard strokes to maneuver around the computer screen, but rather the mouse to click on the pull down menus.
      Please dont tell me the Mouse will disappear!

8. I agree with some of the above. I prefer a mouse but no longer have a fax machine. I still have a landline but no cell phone. I keep an old phone that works when the power is out.
