Meet Tzuying, one of Senior Planet’s newest trainers, who teaches virtual programs in both Mandarin and English. Tzuying moved to the United States from Taiwan six years ago and in the interim has worked as a Mandarin teacher. Now, she’s living in Denver, Colorado with her husband, enjoying the sun, and starting a new path as a technology trainer! 

What made you want to become a technology trainer? 

It was super intriguing. I’d never looked into the older adult industry before. But I feel like it is a perfect match because my mom retired this year. She was an IT professional, while I had nothing to do with technology before. So being able to learn something about technology and share that with her makes me excited.  

Your favorite parts about the job so far?  

I love it so much, in all different aspects. I feel like I have made so many meaningful connections, even though it’s completely online.  

I expected people to come to class because they wanted to learn. But many times, especially in AI courses, they came with fear or because they feel stupid. So being able to let participants feel more comfortable online makes me feel very nice. It’s like they have the ability, but they don’t know that.  

What are your hobbies outside of work? 

My hobbies are all about patience. I love needle felting (at left), and I love doing all different types of arts and crafts related things. I still make handmade birthday cards for my friends and family.  

Do you have a favorite class to teach? 

You know, I think it goes back to my zodiac sign. I’m a Libra. I’m very fair – I love all my classes! 

What does aging with attitude mean to you? 

I get a lot of inspiration from my mom. It’s about feeling proud about getting older and knowing your own value and strength.
