Hola! Senior Planet Enters Miami

Say “Hola!” to Miami’s first technology-themed community center for older adults. Programs kick off at Senior Planet’s newest walk-in center beginning in January.

Senior Planet’s newest walk-in center in Miami is an exciting space in Wynwood –  a happening neighborhood – that is really cool – despite the Miami heat.

Older folks in The Magic City will get their tech on in a location that looks more like a hip, modern co-working space rather than a traditional senior center.

The first thing visitors will see is a dramatic and colorful outside mural by local muralist Rage Johnson (age 51) honoring the area’s connection to the arts. Inside the 4,300 sq. ft. space, they’ll find some 72 screens, state of the art technology free for the using, free wi-fi, and many amenities in a welcoming and comfortable space.

There’s room for group lectures, technology demonstrations, and fitness classes, a lounge area, a free coffee bar and an outdoor seating area.

Need some space? Separate, private rooms include one-person pods and four-person enclosed booths for a comfortable setting for tele-medicine consultations and intimate groups.

About Senior Planet programs at the center:

  • Senior Planet programs are offered free of charge to all participants over 50.
  • Classes are presented as free lectures, workshops, and multi-week technology courses – designed to teach new skills, empowering older adults to use technology to use digital skills.
  • At the new center, multilingual classes will be offered weekly in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole and focus on technology, health, finance, community, and the arts. Some of the most popular classes include All Things Zoom, Computer Essentials, Cloud Storage, and Smartphones at a Glance. For information on in-person classes visit www.seniorplanet.org/miami
  • The center also offers 1-1 technology training and tech discussion groups.

With the launch of Senior Planet Miami, local seniors will have a place to showcase talents, continue learning, and leverage technology to transform themselves and their community. It joins existing Senior Planet locations in New York City, NY; Plattsburgh (North Country), NY; and Denver, CO.

There are Senior Planet teams on-the-ground in San Antonio, TX; Montgomery County, Maryland; and Santa Clara County, CA. While those teams do not operate a Senior Planet center, they do work with local partners to deliver in-person programs.
